WILL LAWLER
About Me
Hi, I’m Will and I’m a Perth based creative studying Screen Arts and Marketing at Curtin University. I have a passion for film and television and am pursuing a career in video production through the advertising or film industry.
Currently I’m a full-time student in my fourth and final year at university. Outside of my studies, I am casually employed as a support worker which involves mentoring and assisting a family of three boys, two of which having high-functioning autism. I am a firm believer in giving everyone a fair go, and I try my best to give back to my community through my work, social life and volunteering opportunities. Since July, 2023, I've volunteered with Teach Learn Grow, going on two Rural Programs where I tutored 13 primary school students in Leonora and Allanson across two seperate weeks and I am currently volunteering as one of the Marketing Officers at TLG creating content for their social media channels and promoting the organisation on campus.

Filmmaking
Both inside and outside of my studies in Screen Arts, I’ve worked on a variety of short films, ranging from narrative, to documentary, to experimental. On these projects I’ve undertaken roles as Director, Director of Photography, Editor, Writer, Animator and I most frequently work as Production Designer or Art Director sourcing and making props as well as constructing sets. One of my more recent projects was Waxing and Waning (2023) which I wrote and directed last year which is available to watch on my instagram @will_intheworks. Currently, I've taken upon the role of production designer for the short film Fedora as part of my major project for my final year of studies in Screen Arts, which I can't wait to share with you!

I’ve also had the privilege of having numerous films feature in local film festivals. This includes a short skateboarding documentary No Rules. No Boundaries (2021) featuring in Backlot Cinema’s Perth Skate Film Festival and Curtin Cygnet Student Film Festival, my individually produced experimental animated film Competitive Development (2022) featuring in Cygnet 2 Student Film Festival as well as Waxing and Waning (2023) and A Man Made of Memories (2023) which were selected for Cygnet 3 Student Film Festival earlier this year.
Between July 2023 and July 2024, I've also acted as President for the Curtin Film Society (formerly known as the Curtin Film Production Society), helping lead my team, rebrand the club and organise events, productions and other opportunities for Curtin University students interested in film and film production.

Marketing and Advertising
Through my marketing degree I've worked on numerous feasibility studies, working with real clients to generate different marketing strategies for them and determining their effectiveness. I've also undertaken photography and advertising electives, creating photography series and ad campaigns. As part of my role as Marketing Officer at Teach Learn Grow I've worked with Canva, Asana and Loomly to create and schedule content for TikTok, Instagram and Facebook and am currently developing a short informational video about the not for profit along with the rest of the TLG Marketing Team.
